obviously me pinanggalingan lahat ng designs nila. sheeesh
Have no comments bout the others coz I somewhat agree after carefully looking at the photos...
However, the GW Wingle was copied by Mazda and Ford Ranger but they failed. Not the other way around. Besides, Mazda B-Series and Ford Ranger was our (FMC) design that they stole from us more than a decade ago. They still have pending cases for those.
GW Hover has a real off-road capability like Mitsubishi Pajero, Nissan Patrol, Toyota Land Cruiser, etc. unlike other small SUVs because it has a heavy duty chassis frame. Others like Chery Tiggo, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorrento, Honda CRV, and the like are monocoque/s or does not have solid chassis frames which makes them good only at paved roads. When you drive them consistently at rough roads, the body will easily breakdown.
GW Hover is also the number 1 in terms of SUV sales volume in China's domestic and international automotive markets for 6 consecutive years now. It also come out with Dual Airbags, ABS+EBD, CRDi, 4-Wheel Drive, Euro III Emission and other advanced features. It also has the lowest price compared to real counterparts from other brands with a difference of more or less P400,000 which makes it the cheapest top of the line 4x4 in the market today. The 4x2 version is only P998,000.00.
By the way, GW Hover is the number 1 SUV in China for 6 consecutive years now in terms of sales volume. It didn't happen for no reason at all.
Besides, I still see many of our 1979 Pinoy, Passenger Jeepneys and 1989 Anfra/s still running. 30 years. A long lasting vehicle is not only about what brand it is. But it is how the owner takes care of the vehicle in terms of normal use and periodic maintenance and also the support from the manufacturer, distributor and dealer of which we can guarantee. We had been in the automotive industry serving the Filipino people for 62 years now despite of all the setbacks and four economic crises.
We are looking forward to your support!
But the wingle's front end design is a dead ringer of the Volkswagen Magellan concept car back in 2001. Which company came up with the design first?
Btw sir EMDFrancisco, any plans of local production of Great Wall cars? I'm looking forward and wishing for the success of francisco motors in the very near future! Goodluck!
Yung Great Wall Coolbear(Mukhang 2nd gen Scion xB) at Peri lang ang ok sa lineup,ok din naman yung Hover(Hover 3 ang nandito sa Pinas right now).Sana 5 Year ang warranty nito at medyo babaan ang presyo.
May bago nang Wingle sa China:

Thank you for that information. The funny thing is that we and GW Research and Development was not even fully aware about how 'Volkswagen Magellan' looks like as it was not mass produced. The truth is Great Wall patterned the designs, technology and manufacturing ethics to Toyota. Some of the earlier designs even looked like Toyota. But as time went by, Great Wall created its own. It even built its own CRDi engine in cooperation with Bosch of Germany. Technology transfer really starts with joint ventures and the like then develop from there. Just like Hyundai with Mitsubishi before. Look where Hyundai is now.
Great Wall will start assembling GW Wingle SKD (Semi-Knocked Down) tentatively (if everything will go as scheduled) on January 2010. Then other models will follow. The assembly plant is at FMC Assembly Plant at Talon, Las Pinas. However, it will be under a different name 'Statemotor Corporation' in cooperation with State Investments Trust Inc.
Under this venture, we are also currently developing the FMC Passenger Jeepney using Chinese made engines but still retaining the classic Jeepney Design. Later-on ....ANFRA. Isa isa lang coz research, development and production cost a lot. It is much easier to finance mass production (though it's more expensive) because after you produce, you can sell as there is a market for it already than to fund a research and development of which like the ANFRA that was displayed at the SMX show years back, we did not mass produce as the market feedback is more on negative than positive. Therefore, we should do better than that. How do we do that? By collecting and building on top of negative but constructive criticisms. One channel is this forum.
Thank you all and looking forward to all of your suggestions.
By the way, please go to Power Plant Mall from August 31 to September 6 as an FMC Passenger Jeepney would be on display inside the mall for Rockwell's Filipino festival. The jeepney will be painted by Team Manila and they will make it a real work of art.
Hi! Yes, as previously mentioned, some previous units were very much like Toyota and Scion is one of them. Cool Bear is the improved and developed version of the Scion. There is even a video in YouTube comparing their features and performance side by side. But it's in a different language.
GW warranty is 3 years and 100,000 Kms whichever comes first as it is our country's standard. We'd rather be conservative rather than be like the other Chinese brands here in our country that gives 5 years warranty but they cannot sustain the parts availability and after sales maintenance. We want to make sure that our clients would be satisfied not only with the product itself but also with the hassle-free after sales relationship.
About the price of Hover, it is very low considering that we are brining in the TOP OF THE LINE. In China, there are many variants for each model. Other Chinese Brands bring in the cheapest not considering the safety features and amenities. Great Wall Hover 4x4 comes with sunroof, leather seats, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Dual Front Airbags, etc. What we want is to bring-in the variants that I myself is willing to own and drive one. Filipinos are predominantly car conscious especially the young ones. That's also why we would also be hosting car clubs for each model like Cool Bear Club, GWPeri Club, etc. Here is where the modifications parts and accessories come in. Also the support system on how to further enhance your total experience with your Great Wall vehicle.
About new Wingle design, it is just another variant of the Wingle. Everything is the same except for the Grille and Headlights for an additional cost. It's the same with Hover. Of which we will eventually bring in all of them.
CRAZY? Maybe...
COPYCAT? Maybe CopyTiger. hehe
Everybody copies something from time to time and then develop from there and end up having something better than the one that was copied. That's what happened to Ford Ranger. They copied our 1970's concept pick-up which later-on became the Mazda B-Series which was initially sold (only in the Philippines) then exported to other countries because it was really good. It is one model (B2200 and B2500 Pick-ups) that we were able to sell in volume/fleet. Then in 1998, Ford did not only copy/steal the design, they also stole the market that we built in our own country for 30 years.
If you haven't heard, after doing that in 1998, Ford eventually sold their shares in Mazda just recently leaving the Japanese with a very negligible market share compared to what we did before for Mazda. There are no more Mazda Light Commercial Vehicles here now. ...Anyway, it's their fight now.
Thanks for the comments!
I do believe GW and Chinese cars have a lot of potential. Just like the Koreans in the 90's I am sure kaya din ng Chinese yan. So lets stop dissing them, eh tayo nga we don't even make cars that are export worthy. Kaya lang natin Sarao Jeep and some AUV or modified SUV from an AUV body.
But will I be buying now? No! Just like I wouldn't buy Korean in the 90's...
*eggman
