To summarize the responses so far: Card holders need to threaten cancellation (of the card) inorder for the customer support to waive the annual fees.
Isn't there a better way? Bec. this method does not work all the time.

Of course there is. Ako nung pina-terminate ko yun Metrobank ko, I asked the CSR na kung meron sila na yun walang annual fee. He told me na meron pero wala nga lang reward points. Sabi ko eh ok lang sa akin, and the rest is history. By that time pala, may hinuhulgan pa akong home theater at 3 months nalang ang natitirang hulog
Use the card regularly. And not by spending on other extravagant things but on the necessary things. I have all my bills enrolled in the card, phone, cable, school tuition ng kids, electricity, plus all my shopping, gas, etc. These are the usual things you would pay in cash but it would be better to pay them thru card since you get rebates or points in return. However, pay your credit card bill in full all the time or else you'll get slapped with a whopping interest amount.
So everytime I call to have the annual fees waive, they will tell me that "since you are a valued customer and you bring good business to us, we shall waive your fees". Then you could use that line everytime, that you bring good business to them and they should waive it always.

Yung sa Citibank sir puede manegotiate last January they tried to charged me sa Shell Citibank ko ng annual fee both principal and supplementary yung na negotiate ko is waived yung supplementary and half na lang yung principal.
:hysterical:

be sure you have a good credit standing before you threaten them to cancel your card because of annual fee, or else tutuluyan nila cancelation
of course, mainam din kung meron kang backup na card in case di kumagat sa bluff
whether you have an existing installment or not, they will waive your annual fee as long as you've been a long time card holder and siyempre with good standing...
sa sobrrang dami and bilis na kumuha ng CC ngayon eh, napakawalang kwenta na ng CC...banks will try to keep you happy...takot lang nila lumipat ka sa iba...
and another thing with the advent of call centers, ang dami-dami na default now sa mga CC dahil hinde mabayaran ng mga agents.kaya they will always try to keep yun mga lumang card holders na matagal na...
if they accept your threat of cancellation then cancel it and get a new card from other banks...
hinde na katulad dati na having a CC is a status symbol..wala ng kwenta CC ngayon. its just another junk in your wallet.
kahit sa mga banks where you have your accounts, wala rin ako kabilib bilib sa mga yan, gamitan lang yan. if they know you have the money and nakadeposit sa kanila para kang hari, but kung wala kang pera or ordinary depositors ka eh parang utang na loob mo pa na tinatangap nila yun pera mo...
kaya always put it in your brains na mas kailangan ka ng banko kesa kailangan mo sila, unless of course you needed to get a loan...then that;s a different story, pero kahit sa pag loan...bias din mga yan.
when I was younger and starting, ayaw ko mag CC but my dad told me then that having a card was a sign of good credit standing lalo na kung meron kang ka meeting na client or something for business, pangit nga naman tingnan na na after a business meeting eh cash ang ibabayad mo sa resto or kahit saan...parng walang kang credibility.
but now...pucha! CC is nothing... kahit Gold CC now is nothing...platinum wala na rin kwenta..pautot lang ng mga banks to pry you to pay higher annual fees.
yeah, monthly interest would be lower for the golds, platinum and other fancy precious metals they call their CCs. but if you always pay the full amount walang kwenta yan, rewards is better but come on...paminsan-minsan lang yan...kailangan mo pang brasuhin para bigyan ka...
pero pinakasulit yun HSBC sa travel points which tinigil na nila dahil mautak mga pinoy....chop-chop ang bayad..my cousin got a 15 seats 2 way free flights * to US and Japan...kaya yun pamliya niya 3X pumunta ng japan and US 2 years ago

Well oo. Example nalang nga eh ako. Wala akong kamalay-malay na magkakaroon ako ng isang gold CC from BDO. Eh wala nga akong ni fill-up na application form eh. Its just that yun FM namin ay under loan sa kanila for 2 years.
Though next year or sometime later this year pa naman...
Mine is BPI (both cards).
I just ask them nicely if they can waive my annual fee. For the past years, ok naman.
Citibank was offering me a card before (for me and my wife) kaso I heard horror stories about them like ghost transactions, rude CSRs etc. So, I declined.
This is so true! I was offered an upgrade on my card to Platinum but I refused this because the AF was P5000 relative to Gold which was only P2500. The only perks were triple the miles, 5% (instead of 3% rebate on gas) and lower interest rate. The cost of the AF is not enough to offset the perks since I also pay my balance in full. I only maintain one Gold para sa proof of financial capacity, the rest are regular cards and I always request for a 25k credit limit so if the card gets stolen or hacked, not much could be charged.
I call lang to request for waiver of annual fee. The most that I had was 70% discount on AF with Citibank. My monthly purchases are not so high and I pay it in full so they don't earn too much from me unlike from revolvers.

Never pa akong nagbayad ng annual fee, nor any other fee sa mga CC.

You can always file for a dispute with the CC company. 2 of my cards were hacked last december nung ginamit ng anak ko to purchase some online game items. The disputed charges were already reversed in my last billing statement.
Btw, what credit cards ba ang may rebates sa gas?
