    Hi everyone,

just want to know how often do you change your air filter? also am i doing it right???

Im using a 2NZ-FE engine on city driving (severe condition)

my air filter is a 17801-0M020 full fabric material (FFM) i think this is the un-cleanable one not unlike the paper made

manual says for severe condition is 3T KM or 3 months! (wow that's gonna be so expensive)

as you know air is an important ingredient for combustion, but foreign particles is not because it will damage the the engine)

so its a good idea to keep your air filter clean

now how do i test if my filter is still usable?

on a dark room, i place an flashlight below and see if light will pass thru, if yes, then still usable, if no, its clogged and needs a replacement... also a drop in fuel efficiency is a sign of clogged air filter.

my last 3 replacement history (engine oil (5T KM or 6 mo) and air filter (3T KM or 3 mo) is done separately based on when they hit their respective due date applying severe condition guidelines)

    may 29, 2013 - 29,017 km to sept 21, 2013 - 32,540 km = 3 months or 3,523 km
    sept 21, 2013 - 32,540 km to mar 05, 2014 - 38,090 km = 6 months or 5,550 km
    mar 05, 2014 - 38,090 km to aug 22, 2014 - 43,291 km = 5 months or 5,201 km

I replace my air filter after around 2 years or 15,000km. Never had any problems. Sometimes they clean it during oil change.

i clean the engine air filters every 4 months, then replace every 10,000km service. i don't go by date for replacement as my vehicle usage is irregular. cleaning is done by soaking in warm water with detergent, then moderate agitation, rinsing with a water hose, then spin dry in the washing machine. this is followed by an inspection - if i can see light pass through then it means it needs replacement already, may butas na. i do the same with the cabin air filters except no spin dry, i just put it back directly and run the a/c at full speed and let the air flow dry the filter. you can't do this to the engine air filter, papasukin ng water ang engine that is why spin dry muna before installing back.

for some reason mas mahal ang cabin air filters ng hyundai at kia compared to the engine air filters. cabin air filters cost 2x the engine air filters. for example yung sa starex P450 lang ang engine air filter while the cabin air filter costs P1000.

    change engine air filters? moi?
i just have my factory orig (dry) filter cleaned by an air hose every 5K..
hanggang hindi siya namamantsahan ng langis, o hindi napupunit, ay hindi ko pinapalitan..
    ang mahal nyan, 'no..!

yung aircon filter naman.. linalabhan ko yan. soap and water, and gentle hand manipulation.
