Actually mga 4 is to 1 in favor of hiace. Mas matipid, mas matulin at mas mura parts and labor eh.

Why? it's because of the sheer power and torque of hiace. Malayong malayo ang urvan. When you say sa rektahan, malamang talo ang lumang hiace but D4D engine is different. Mas nadadalian sya lalo ka kapag puno.

Nissan Urvan is more popular, hence many shuttle are Urvans only because it's 150k cheaper than Hiace. Ang with that the ROI is slighter faster.
    Hello Guys,

Sa mga owners. How would you fair the maintenance? Let's start with downside of the maintenance?
Madali lang ba abutin mga parts na needed for PMS? Like oil filter, fuel filter?

Sa urvan escapade, you have to lie down under the car to get the air cleaner. Pati fuel filter ganun din. Sa new hiace, just knee in front of the passenger headlamp and you can free the air cleaner.

Checking the coolant, brake fluid and washer fluid on the new hiace is easier and in one place. On the urvan washer fluid is above left taillamp, brake fluid is on driver side dashboard, and the coolant jug is behind the front passenger seat with some minor disassembly required.

Both of them have oil filters underneath the vehicle

I've driven both Toyota Hiace and Nissan Urvan. Hiace Commuter and Urvan Shuttle 18-seater to be exact.

    The URVAN:

strengths are - the A/C system cooling capability is high and suspension is comfortable for passengers..

    - cheaper than a hiace

    - has more seating caps than the commuter

    Downsides are:

    - the transmission needs a 6th gear especially when running the highways like SCTEX or NLEX. running at speeds over a hundred will cause the TEMP gauge to go higher than the normal operating temp.

    - Noticeable loss of power and torque when climbing steep roads (you need to downshift a lot...)

    - spare parts have honda-like prices (ANG MAHAL)

    Toyota Hiace:

    Strengths are:

    - Beefy engine (D4D and turbocharged) can make an urvan eat dust...

    - SPACE is what this van is all about

    - Cheap and available anytime spare parts (maybe not as cheap but cheaper than others)

    - Nice ergonomics (I personally love how the steering wheel angle is set to be just like a sedan. Same goes for the location of the shifter. No need for too much arm movements from steering wheel to shifter.)

    DOWNSIDES:

    - Shaped like a box, or worse like a refrigerator...(but mind you, if you add bodykits it looks bada$$)

    - seats are way too stiff. (a big problem for senior citizens who have back problems)

    - rear suspension is a bit stiff...

    - Front doors are too large aren't they?

I saw an urvan display at San juan before. Hindi ko mabuksan yung pintuan. biglang lumapit yung tao, sabi "sira" na raw kasi. haha nun nabuksan, sobrang turn off ng interior.

from what i've heard, if you are a long term thinker, you'd go for toyota. hangang ngayon, ang dami parin early 2000s na hi ace dyan sa daan. matibay kasi

Mabigat and malaki front door ng hiace to comply with newer crash regs in other markets. Oem parts are not exactly cheap but may replacements na din.
