Just helping out a relative buy a new car
Guys for a budget of around 850K to 950K, what car(compacts at sub-compacts na 1.8L or below) would you suggest?
    Their top priority are...
No. 1 - Fuel Efficiency, especially on city driving
No. 2 - Riding Comfort (inside space and smoothness of ride)
No. 3 - Model Reliability (minimal issues and problems)

    Many thanks

Do you need to buy the car this month? Why not wait for the Toyota Corolla 2014 model? It looks very promising

Or better yet wait until MIAS April 2014. That's when some new models are introduced.

    FORD FIESTA 1.0L ECOBOOST.

It should come out just under P900K.

A subcompact for almost 900k is just overrated. A compact is better as it has more interior space and more comfortable. The current generation Corolla Altis 1.6L models are offered with a big discount nowadays (priced even cheaper than the new Vios 1.5L). The Civic is another good choice (the current FB model may not be as sporty as the previous FD but it rides softer and fuel efficient for a 1.8L). Hyundai also offers discounts for the 1.8L Elantra. Mitsubishi is doing well with the sales of the Lancer EX 1.6L models as it is priced cheaper than its compact counterparts.

If you can wait for 2014, Toyota will be releasing the new Altis and maany are hoping that Berjaya will bring soon the new Mazda 3 SkyActiv (great reviews on this compact from the US).

Some people would pay a premium if they think he car they are buying would save fuel and still be fun to drive. The Fiesta ecoboost can delivery excellent daily fuel economy numbers and still be fun to drive due to having 126hp from its turbocharged 1.0L engine. Personally this is a better car than buying an equivalent hybrid like the Prius C which costs a lot more.

tama sir GH, others would buy a phone at 200kphp since they can afford it. so for me depende rin sa bibili, meron naman na kahit mura lang eh mahal pa rin ang tingin.

saw that ecoboost before sa rollout issue ng topgear, but i opted for the accent HB a/t. bukod kasi sa matagal pa hihintayin ko for the ford mas malaki accent in terms of size and it's got 126hp and 260nm on tap with diesel fuel to boot.

Front passengers lang ang comfortable sa Ford Fiesta. Masikip sa back seat. Try it out when you're at their showrooms.

most persons who option between comps and subc's have similar/ equivalent priorities like yours and it just all boils down to preference. so suggestions they give here are all good enough as in all are efficient, comfortable and mostly reliable. it now depends on how you drive and who passengers will be. so do a test drive if possible, i personally will choose the civic.
