September 1st, 2011 07:57 PM #1till i found out na may forums pala na ganito, mejo na enlight ako pero sobrang konti palang nababasa ko hehe one good thread is this:
http://tsikot.com/forums/car-buying-...and-car-82886/
which is parang dilemma ko din. i may have 140k by september up to 160 by november and planning to buy a used car. ang purpose ng car is for everyday use (mandaluyong kalentong to makati (makati ave)) pang pasok ung sasakyan and on weekends pang uwi from fort to cogeo rizal. although sympre between weekdays may times siguro na hindi magagamit.
i dont know if im nuts pero im planning to keep the car, tipong gagamitin gang di na kaya, hindi ibu-buy and sell.
lahat ng tanungan kong friends laging sinasabi na honda ang hanapin ko kung used but given my budget i guess esi lang kaya abutin eh i almost have the same choices with the thread above. eto ung choices:
1. honda civic esi 94/95
2. toyota corolla
3. lancer itlog
4. nissan sentra
5. honda city 97 may ilan ilan akong nakikita na mura
parehong pareho nung sa thread sa taas hehe. eh ang nabanggit din sa thread above, esi ung usual na least choice. paki advise naman mga kapatid kung ano best choice. i already have links of the ad's im eyeing on pero pingbubura ko ung lancer at corolla at natira sa choices ko ay honda.
salamat in advance

September 2nd, 2011 11:05 AM #3bro,its better na may matira pa konti sa budget mo for maintenance, say 120k for the car then 20k for preventive maintenance.. i suggest 93-96 corolla xe power steering na yun,,1.3engine tipid sa gas...if your eyeing for the esi,no question good performance ang honda then matibay mga parts..yun 140k budget mo you can get an esi na not sure if nothing to fix na..some seller they say "nothing to fix"pero nag bili mo na ayun labasan yun sira..,much better kakilala mo yun bibilan mo ng esi..IMO ko lang..but its up to you pa din..you say you will have addtl budget this nov..so if that so go for a good esi car.

additional question: ano po ba ang acceptable mileage for used cars? i understand mababa talaga ung budget ko but still makakahanap bako ng mga 100k to 120k mileage lang?

September 3rd, 2011 09:35 PM #5I see, I recommend na kung kaya mong maghintay ng konti para maijack-up ang budget mo, maghintay ka ng konti. The wait will be worth it. Since newbie ka, the newer the vehicle, the better. Maganda makina niyan at magtatagal talaga sayo. Ang Nissan Sentra Series 3 ang may pinakamababang resale value sa original four competitors (Civic, Corolla, Lancer, Sentra) kaya you can buy as new as 1999 models for your 160k budget. Ang City naman, I personally do not like the looks dahil very plain talaga. But the car itself is very low maintenance, economical and yet high performing. 105hp/95hp 1.5L/1.3L 16V EFI engine in such a light car means excellent gas mileage with lots of power still there when you need it. Its current resale value is pretty much similar to the Sentra, 1999 models will fit into your budget. So take your pick!
Here are some examples of your choices that I find reasonably good and will fit into your budget or may fit into your budget with a bit of negotiating:

+1 ako dito. kung ako po ang TS nitong thread na ito, I'd pick the 99 Sentra ONLY WHEN you have made sure that (1) It was not an Ondoy Casualty. (2) Not modified or very minimal modifications done. (3) No legal issues.

gti - im glad to know mejo tama ung choices ko i was actually looking at the same choices you made (specially the lancers) pero di ko masyado natitignang choice ung nissan dahil daw mahirap ang parts nito (sabi lang naman ng utol kong bago din sa auto, reason why di ko din masyadong sinunod payo nya and still im looking into nissan's as option)
so i guess konting ipon pa... hehehe

September 6th, 2011 12:11 PM #9Actually, as what guigui said, (1) It was not an Ondoy Casualty. (2) Not modified or very minimal modifications done. (3) No legal issues. <- applies to all cars you want to buy. :D
For Nissan cars, parts are abundant. Since its used as taxi. And prices are comparable to Toyota already.
For me, buy the newest cars w/ the lowest price. Bang for the buck.

Thank you Sir Istan. That was really my intention. And also, I just leaned towards Nissan because of the exact reason you were pointing-out. But I'm not saying that Mitsubishi Lancer is not a good pick, sa Lancer nga ako natutong mag-drive eh.
Since the TS is a confessed "Newbie pa talaga ako" and it seems that his/her brother is a "fanboy" of a certain brand, let's just state why we compared the abundance of parts and its price to a Toyota. The reason why Toyota is sells like fishball is because there is no single auto supply that runs out of toyota spare parts whether genuine toyota parts or generic ones. If ever a certain auto supply runs out of a Toyota spare part, they could easily source one and give it to you the following day.
