It won't really consume 4 sheets per door unless you're talking about Expedition-sized cars. Usually one sheet inside and another outside or a total of 2 sheets/door.
If you need to choice between the two, deaden the outer wall which has more surface area and where speaker back-waves bounce at.
Should be comparable. You don't really need branded deadeners. Sure, there are "grades" when it comes to rubber butyl but performance is inherently physics-based. The reason for deadening is just to add mass. The heavier.. the better because it lowers the resonant frequency of the panel (which is the main reason of deadening)
So is it comparable? Yes.

Nag pm kasi ako sa kanya and asked for an OEM butyl or stp price and yun ang reply nya.

Ganito kasi yan,
Sound deadening, although contrary to its name, has the main purpose of lowering the resonant frequency of a panel by adding mass so that it vibrates at a lower frequency hence less annoying to our ears. For example, a bee buzzing by your ear is extremely annoying while a grinding cement truck isn't. It's primarily used in car audio applications.
If you plan on lowering the noise inside your cabin.. you need to do more than just deadening. Deadening helps.. but it's quite inefficient as a sound barrier. This is why the NVH insulation of car manufacturers like Lexus is legendary. This is because they engineer the car from ground up to plug as many leaks as possible - so what you get is a cocoon inside that shields noise coming from outside. In a practical sense, let's say meron ka space na meron sliding windows - the easiest way on how to block sound is to slide the window to create a "bubble" by plugging in air leaks (because noise travels by air).
Can you use this on your engine/cabin firewall to reduce the amount of engine noise? Yes. How? Just plug as many air leaks you see. Still, this is inefficient.
